This older but still compelling novel can now be found in a newer version than the one I read. It begins with the unfortunate death of Fabian Hightower, a young but reckless fellow who was killed in a motor vehicle accident, along with his friend.

When advised of Fabian’s death, his mother, Alex Hightower, refuses to believe it. She could have sworn that she’d seen him that very night standing in her bedroom. As this riveting tale unfolds, it seems Mrs. Hightower never really knew the son she bore. And to top it off, she had no idea of his true nature.

You see, Fabian has no intention of remaining among the dead and will do anything he can – even possess his own mother – to live again.

Possession is one of those books that keep you turning page after page in eager anticipation of what is to come. This is likely why this book has endured so long, in so many reincarnations.
